Christopher Ward Debuts C63 True GMT with In-House CW-002 Movement
Christopher Ward has announced the launch of the C63 True GMT, featuring the brand's first in-house 'true' GMT movement, Calibre CW-002. This movement is based on the foundations of the CW-001 (formerly Calibre SH21) and represents a three-year development project led by technical director Frank Stelzer. The watch distinguishes itself by allowing the hour hand to be set independently of the GMT hand, a feature designed specifically for frequent travelers.
The Calibre CW-002 is a COSC-certified chronometer that maintains a five-day power reserve despite the integration of 23 additional or modified components for the GMT function. The movement's design was engineered to keep the height profile low, utilizing a new plate to support the GMT wheel. Notably, the barrel retains an 'SH21' engraving as a tribute to the movement's heritage and original architecture.
The physical design of the watch measures 40.5mm and features a complex, multi-layered dial available in black or white. Design director Adrian Buchmann focused on technical transparency, incorporating a grainé-textured dial with an applied small-seconds subdial at 6 o'clock and a power-reserve indicator at 9 o'clock. An exposed GMT bridge at 3 o'clock showcases various finishes, including linear brushing and hand-polished facets.
Available in both black and white configurations, the C63 True GMT can be paired with either a Bader bracelet or an integrated rubber strap. Each timepiece is part of the brand’s Atelier collection and comes with a 5-year movement guarantee. This release marks Christopher Ward as the first British brand to manufacture its own 'true' GMT movement.
