Maen Manhattan is the answer. Seriously underrated piece.

Gasket sealing on non-round cases is a nightmare for water resistance. Half the square watches I've seen from smaller brands top out at 30m which is basically splash proof.

The Cartier Tank is right there and nobody in the micro space has really tried to do their own take on it. Feels like a missed opportunity tbh.

Tooling costs. Round cases are way cheaper to produce and most micros are running on razor thin margins as it is.

My grandpa wore a rectangular Seiko his whole life and it's honestly what got me into watches. Would love to see Baltic or Farer try one.

The Brew Metric exists and it's incredible. More micros should take that risk imo.

It comes down to movements — fitting a round Miyota 9015 into a slim rectangular case is an engineering headache. You either get a thick watch or a ton of wasted space.
